Recognizing Hate

I am deeply troubled by the problem of helping people understand the existence of hate and brutality of totalitarian regimes and intolerant despots.   The Orphan Master’s Son, a novel by Adam Johnson may help – it depicts the horrific human oppression enough to nearly traumatize readers, and in doing so I hope it strengthens the ability of people to recognize and take clear and decisive action to defend the freedom we have and build a more tolerant world.
